nature park, the town of Apt (from Apta Julia), was founded by the Romans, who, by way of the Via Domitia, first developed a
civilised settlement here back in the 1st century BC. Apt, surrounded by lavender fields, cherry trees, vineyards and numerous
ochre quarries, is a true delight for the senses. Is the world capital for candied fruit, whilst the area's natural resources
have enabled local crafts and arts to thrive, notably with the celebrated Apt fine faience, natural pigments, ochres...
What to see, what to visit: the subprefecture building, formerly the residence of the bishops of Apt; the cathedral Sainte-Catherine (now a protestant temple); the cathedral Sainte-Anne (built in the 12th and 13th centuries on the remains of an older construction); the Maison du Parc du Luberon (which provides information on the local wildlife); visits to La Maison du Fruit Confit, our opening hours are as follows: open from monday to saturday from 9h30 to 12h30 and from 14h to 18h30 (april to september) - open from monday to saturday from 9h30 to 12h30 and from 14h to 18h and sundays from december from 10h to 12h30 and from 14h to 17h30 (october to March). Visits to a black farm (all year round, by appointment).; visit of an ochre manufacturer (all year round, by prior arrangement).
