Cassis

Cassis is a small fishing harbour between Aubagne and La Ciotat, and is a colourful and bustling village set in grandiose décors. It nestles between the Cap Canaille, which has the highest cliffs in Europe (416 m), and the Calanques, which are the deep canyons cut into the rocky cliffs. The Calanques cut into cliffs which have sheer drops into the Mediterranean. It is a protected site which stretches over 4,000 hectares and can be visited on foot or by boat, with trips leaving from either Cassis or Marseille.
Magical and entrancing, the calanques are a paradise for scuba divers, snorkellers, rock climbers... The wildlife and vegetation that can be seen here are truly extraordinary...

What to see, what to visit: chapel Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Voyage; chapel of Sainte-Croix; 13th century castle (not open to the public); the municipal museum of Mediterranean Arts and Traditions; boat trips to the calanques; the Route des Crêtes (cliff top road)...
